Ana Lucia Ixchiu Hernandez
K'iche Mayan woman, artist, cultural manager, singer, community journalist, architect, curator of community art, indigenous storyteller, film director.
Born in Totonicapán, Guatemala. Pioneer and creators of work in art and climate crisis and activist since the age of 11 in work in art and culture. She became an activist and journalist for the massacre of October 4, 2012, at the Alaska Summit, a massacre that the Guatemalan army committed against the indigenous people of Totonicapán, as part of the student movement, currently exiled and criminalized by the State of Guatemala by the Guatemalan kleptocracy and criminal dictatorship.

- What skills are you most proud of or want to learn?
I am a woman organized from the communal perspective, with the gentle gift of my ancestors and the common sense of a forest. I also believe these are necessary skills in the world of human rights, and all forms of knowledge are important.
- What is your vision for civil society
Solidarity must be the path that moves the world in a context of hatred and polarization. Civil society in movement and adaptation plays a key and fundamental role in sustaining democracies, and defending civic space is an obligation that we have as a generation, since all the rights we have achieved so far have been inherited by movements that broke paradigms in difficult and hostile contexts. Today we face challenges that call on us to be organized.
- What lesson(s) have you learnt from failure?
Failure is part of life and is neither good nor bad, it is a teacher that teaches and in the worst circumstances it is essential to gain experience.
