Sudan: Extend the mandate of the Fact-Finding Mission for two more years

Ahead of the UN Human Rights Council’s 60th session (Sep–Oct 2025), CIVICUS and over 30 civil society organisations have written to Permanent Representatives of Member and Observer States of the United Nations (UN) Human Rights Council urging them to extend the mandate of the Independent International Fact-Finding Mission (FFM) on Sudan for two more years.

The conflict, now in its third year, has killed tens of thousands and displaced over 13 million people, making Sudan the world’s largest displacement crisis.
All parties continue to commit grave violations, including mass killings, arbitrary detention, and systematic sexual violence against women and girls.
The FFM plays a vital role in documenting atrocities, preserving evidence, and paving the way for accountability.

Extending its mandate is essential to protect civilians and end cycles of impunity.
