CIVICUS works to facilitate the meaningful participation of civil society in global decision-making spaces. Most recently, we supported Laurent Cypria, an activist from Martinique, to attend the 2025 UN Oceans Conference in Nice.
The conference serves as a vital platform for addressing pressing ocean-related challenges and ensuring that local and grassroots voices are included in shaping global ocean governance.
Laurent shares his reflections on the experience through a written article and video statement (in French), highlighting the importance of civil society participation in such high-level forums. Read the article (in French) and watch the video here (in French).
