HRC58: States should extend human rights investigation in Ukraine

CIVICUS, together with six other international NGOs, calls on states from all regions to support renewing the mandate of the independent international Commission of Inquiry on Ukraine at the 58th session of the UN Human Rights Council.

In the year since the last renewal of the Independent International Commission of Inquiry on Ukraine’s (COI) mandate, violations of international human rights and humanitarian law have persisted in the war in Ukraine, inflicting immense suffering on civilians. Some of these violations may amount to war crimes and crimes against humanity.

In this joint statement, we call on the Human Rights Council to renew the Commission’s mandate, ensuring it can continue its vital work of investigating and documenting war crimes, crimes against humanity, and other human rights violations in Ukraine. This is essential to securing justice for victims and survivors.
