The Civil Society Index was implemented in South Africa in 2001 by the Co-operative for Research and Education (CORE) and the Institute for Democracy in South Africa (IDASA), in cooperation with the South African NGO Coalition (SANGOCO), with the international coordination of CIVICUS. This implementation led to a report presenting the results of the CSI initiative in the country.
