Throughout 2010, CIVICUS worked to improve public trust and the credibility of civil society organisations and
their activities through the enhancement of their accountability systems and structures.  Our activities under
this theme were undertaken primarily under the auspices of the Legitimacy, Transparency and Accountability
(LTA) project [

Key achievements

In 2010, the key achievements of the LTA project include:

•  The LTA Resource Centre [
http://lta.civicus.org], containing the latest research, toolkits and case studies
on LTA was launched in August 2010.

•  A series of interactive LTA webinars was held reaching over 100 participants including civil society organi-
sations, donors and academic experts from countries around the world. Presenters included LTA partners
North West Association for Development Organisations (Cameroon); Instituto de Comunicacin y Desarrollo
(Uruguay); Cooperation Committee for Cambodia; CIVICUS; Keystone Accountability; and One World Trust.

•  CIVICUS continued to be an active Board member of the International Non-Governmental Organisation
   (INGO) Accountability Charter [
Link] and supported the development of an NGO sector supplement of the
Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), which marks a new phase in the progress towards harmonising accountability
   regimes.

•  The Affinity Group of National Associations (AGNA) [
Link] is a network of national associations around the
world. Its Annual General Meeting provided 30 heads of national associations with an opportunity for networking
and joint action on issues of common concern, such as accountability, legitimacy and engagement with other
   sectors.

Looking Forward

In 2011, CIVICUS will continue its work to promote and strengthen civil society accountability. Specific activities
planned for the year include research and analysis of LTA issues in situations of conflict, post-conflict and
restricted environments as well as the development of resources and webinars for the implementation of LTA
principles at the local, national and international level.

About the Legitimacy, Transparency and Accountability project

The Legitimacy, Transparency and Accountability (LTA) project [
Link] works to improve the governance of
CSOs and build public trust in them. It does so by promoting awareness on the part of CSOs and other
stakeholders regarding issues of LTA, promoting ethical practice and agreed codes of conduct, and
enhancing the quality and functioning of CSO boards and other formal oversight and accountability
mechanisms
