Civil Rights Defenders

Civil Rights Defenders is an international human rights organisation based in Stockholm, Sweden. The organisation partners with and supports human rights defenders who work in some of the world’s most repressive regions on four continents. 

Through advocacy, litigation, and public campaigns, Civil Rights Defenders work to advance people’s rights globally. Civil Rights Defenders is religiously and politically unaffiliated.

None of the countries in East and Horn of Africa are “free”, according to Freedom House. Impunity is particularly widespread, as are many other serious human rights violations. Freedom of speech and access to free, independent media are heavily restricted.
