CIVICUS seeks
nominations of individuals
to stand for election to its Board of
Directors

Background:
The CIVICUS Board of
Directors is the organisation's governing body. It comprises 13 directors
who are elected to serve a three-year term. Any current
or prospective
member of CIVICUS may stand for election to one of the 13 seats.
To ensure transparency and avoid conflicts of interest, the Board has created an ad hoc Nominations Committee to develop a list of candidates to be presented to the membership of CIVICUS. Members in good standing wil elect the 13 directors from a list of 26 names. The list wil consist of current Board members eligible and wil ing to stand for re-election and individuals not currently serving on the Board but who are nominated by CIVICUS' members, partners or themselves.
The outgoing Board Chairperson, Aruna Rao,
Director of Gender at Work wil chair the 5-member Nominations Committee.
Other members wil include one
current Board member who is not eligible for
re-election and three persons of prominent standing in the civil society
movement who are not CIVICUS directors and who also wil not stand for
election to the Board.
Board membership requires a dedicated commitment of time approximately ten to fifteen days per year and dependable availability to attend meetings and undertake activities on CIVICUS behalf throughout the term of office. In addition, personal efforts to help cover costs of board participation are encouraged.
Selection Criteria:
In selecting nominees, the Committee wil take into account CIVICUS'
needs for a Board to be fil ed by persons who:
have institutional and
individual credibility at national, regional and/or
international levels in
the civil society movement;
have experience at managerial levels and/or as a member of
boards of
directors;
The Nominations Committee wil also
consider CIVICUS' needs for a Board that
col ectively is:
conducive toward maintaining an appropriate measure of continuity.
The Call and Directions:
CIVICUS' Board requests nominations
from Members and partners of the
organisation. You may nominate yourself
and/or others.
A nomination will be certified when CIVICUS receives
the following
application items no later than midnight GMT, 20
November 2006:
1. A completed Nomination Form (only one nominee per
form; please copy
the blank form as needed).
2. A letter of intent from
each nominee (other than self-nominees). See
Nomination Form Section B item
about what the letter of intent should
include. (Note: a nominee does not
have to be a member of CIVICUS
when nominated, but she/he or his/her
organisation must join no later than
December 31st 2006.)
