CALL FOR NOMINATIONS DEADLINE EXTENDED

CIVICUS seeks nominations of individuals
to stand for election to its Board of Directors

Please note the new deadline for nominations: 20 November 2006

Background:

The CIVICUS Board of Directors is the organisation's governing body. It comprises 13 directors who are elected to serve a three-year term. Any current

To ensure transparency and avoid conflicts of interest, the Board has created an ad hoc Nominations Committee to develop a list of candidates to be presented to the membership of CIVICUS. Members in good standing wil elect the 13 directors from a list of 26 names. The list wil consist of current Board members eligible and wil ing to stand for re-election and individuals not currently serving on the Board but who are nominated by CIVICUS' members, partners or themselves.

The outgoing Board Chairperson, Aruna Rao, Director of Gender at Work wil chair the 5-member Nominations Committee. Other members wil include one
current Board member who is not eligible for re-election and three persons of prominent standing in the civil society movement who are not CIVICUS directors and who also wil not stand for election to the Board.

Board membership requires a dedicated commitment of time approximately ten to fifteen days per year and dependable availability to attend meetings and undertake activities on CIVICUS behalf throughout the term of office. In addition, personal efforts to help cover costs of board participation are encouraged.
