CIVICUS World Assembly Team

In May 2007 the CIVICUS World Assembly will bring together over 1,000 people from across the globe to discuss, share and collaborate on various ideas and challenges related to accountability and how it can be used to deliver results.

“Be there to recharge your batteries, to learn new things, to make new connections and to explore joint projects across borders & sectors”, Kumi Naidoo, Secretary General of CIVICUS

The 7th CIVICUS World Assembly will be held in Glasgow, Scotland, from 23 – 27 May 2007. The past 6 CIVICUS World Assemblies have shown the creativity and dynamism that civil society can bring to address issues of justice and equity, and have been a watershed for strengthening civil society. Previous assemblies have been held in Mexico City, Budapest, Manila, Vancouver, and Gaberone. The 2006 assembly in Glasgow marked the beginning of our new approach to the CIVICUS World Assemblies which will now be held every year in one location for three years.

The overall theme for the 2007 CIVICUS World Assembly is Acting Together for a Just World. This theme will be explored through a central focus theme: Accountability: Delivering Results.

“Transparency and accountability are essential to good governance and the achievement of a just world.” - Finn Heinrich, Assistant Secretary General, Programmes, CIVICUS

In 2007 the CIVICUS World Assembly will assemble traditionally isolated stakeholders of civil society to enable them to act together for a just world. The key stakeholders are, broadly, civil society organisations, donors, government, business and media.

The Programme for the World Assembly in 2007 will comprise plenary sessions, workshops and exhibitions. The programme participants will include highly energetic experts and leaders of today and of tomorrow from all the different sectors. For the first time in the history of the assemblies we will introduce film screenings as an alternative tool to disseminate and share information of apparently far-off stories or situations that, once told through film, become very much closer to home.

CIVICUS invites you to participate in the assembly by registering as a delegate, submitting a workshop proposal or hiring an exhibition stand. For further information on how to participate in the CIVICUS World Assembly please visit our new website www.civicuassembly.org

For queries please email: worldassembly@civicus.org or contact Tracy September on +27 11 833 5959.

CIVICUS looks forward to your participation in the World Assembly. Let’s Act Together for a Just World!!!
