CIVICUS Mongolia partner wins national award for contributions to development of civil society movement


Zanaa Jurmed, director of the National CEDAW Watch Network Centre, Chair of the Mongolian NGO Coalition and CIVICUS’ Civil Society Watch project partner for the implementation of the CSI project in Mongolia, has been awarded Mongolia’s "Order of the Red Star" for her exceptional contributions to furthering Mongolia’s democratic movement and bringing tremendous change to the political, economic, social and cultural life of the Mongolian people.

This significant award, the second highest order in Mongolia, was awarded on the occasion of the 15th Anniversary of the Mongolian Democratic Union.

Zanaa was also honoured for her immense contributions towards developing the NGO and civil society movement in Mongolia and her courageous struggle to protect the human rights of women and gender equality.

She was valued for her outstanding performance as first Chair of the Mongolian Democratic Party City Council, which included maintaining the care, security and health of political hunger strikers and other women activists protesting against the former Communist Regime.

As well, she was honoured for her work in prodemocracy demonstrations and meetings and for her contributions towards democratising the City Assembly of Ulaanbaatar through her media work.
