A Critical Time for Civil Society in Sierra Leone

The Civil Society Index Report for Sierra Leone was produced by CIVICUS Civil Society Index (CSI) and its country partner organization, Campaign for Good Governance in collaboration with Christian Aid – Sierra Leone. The report reflects that civil society has played a strong and influential role in bringing democratic change into the country. The question now arises, whether civil society will be able to maintain such change and practice among themselves.

The report also shows how civil society continues to play a role in re-building the country after years of civil war, in particularly with the reintegration of former combatants. However, the sustainability of financial resources has been identified as potential threat to the work of civil society organizations working in Sierra Leone especially since most of their funds come from foreign donors.
