Greek Civil Society: The Long Road to Maturity (2005)

The Civil Society Index Report for Greece was produced by the CIVICUS Civil Society Index (CSI) and its country partner, access2democracy. access2democracy implemented the Civil Society Index-Shortened Assessment Tool (CSI-SAT). The CSI-SAT project in Greece collected secondary data and input from a broad range of civil stakeholders. Based on this existing data and using a comprehensive framework of 74 indicators, the project's Stakeholder Assessment Group assessed the overall state of civil society in Greece.

The CSI-SAT findings in Greece brought forth many new insights about Greek civil society, and at times even challenged existing wisdom. The study revealed that despite operating in a relatively enabling environment as well as practicing and promoting positive values, the structure of Greek civil society is very weak while the impact is limited.
