Founder and executive director of Island PRIDE; One Young World Ambassador | Micronesia
Yolanda Joab is a young woman from the Federated States of Micronesia. She is the founder and executive director of Island PRIDE (Promoting Resilience through Involvement, Development and Education), which runs programmes about Climate Change Adaptation,
Disaster Risk Reduction and Education across the Federated States of Micronesia, the Marshall Islands and Palau. Through the programmes, Island PRIDE empowers students and communities in the most remote of villages and outer islands.
For five years, Joab has helped lead a programme that has educated some 10000 students in 62 schools in 57 communities, helping island communities to take matters into their own hands and develop schemes for tackling climate change based on their own needs.
With the challenges she faces in her work for climate justice, she has also become passionate about gender equality and women’s empowerment.
